Video: Bill Maher Says the Media Botched the Bill O’Reilly Controversy

Speaking on his HBO program “Real Time,” Bill Maher accused the media of mishandling the controversy surrounding Fox News mainstay Bill O’Reilly’s claims that he was in a war zone during the Falklands War, along with other claims by O’Reilly.

Maher contrasts the handling of erroneous war claims by Brian Williams, who’s on a six-month suspension from NBC, with the O’Reilly situation, commenting: “Why isn’t the mainstream media going after [O’Reilly] with the same ferocity — the supposed liberal media — as they did Brian Williams?”

  1. Who could not mistrust Mother Jones magazine?

  2. Who could not mistrust all the facts, laid out for all to see and available to everyone?

  3. I love Bill Maher but in this case I wish he got his facts straight. O’Reilly did not claim to be in the Falkland Islands war zone. He claimed, and he brought up multiple witnesses to verify his claim, that he was in Argentina when their were riots in the street because Argentina surrendered to the British. He said the riots were “like” a war zone. The media didn’t go after him because he didn’t lie.

  5. No wonder Bill was so kind to Brain Williams when Brian was caught in a lie; Bill knew he had done the same.
