ABC Shelves High-Profile Project — and Reveals Why

May 12, 2015  •  Post A Comment

ABC has reportedly decided not to move forward with a spinoff of a successful series on the network. EW.com reports that Entertainment President Paul Lee talked about the decision to scrap the high-profile “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” spinoff in the runup to today’s upfront presentation.

Lee made the decision, he said, because the characters who would have been at the center of the new series are too important to the flagship series. The spinoff was to be built around Agent Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and mercenary Lance Hunter (Nick Blood).

Lee is quoted in the report saying: “We absolutely love those characters on ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ We think ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ hit its creative stride this year. We thought the right thing now is to leave them on ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ because ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ is so strong on the moment.”

However, Lee left the door open, the report notes, for a possible future spinoff.
