ABC’s ‘World News Tonight’ Claims Ratings Win Over ‘NBC Nightly News’

ABC’s “World News Tonight” claimed a win in the key news demo of viewers 25-54 for the seventh time in the past eight weeks, as rival “NBC Nightly News” continues to be hosted by Lester Holt during Brian Williams’ suspension.

The NBC program, however, took the win in total viewers over ABC’s David Muir-hosted program.

Here are the numbers for the big three broadcast evening newscasts for the week of April 27, 2015, based on Nielsen figures:

Total Viewers

NBC Nightly News: 7.726 million

ABC World News Tonight: 7.687 million

CBS Evening News: 6.576 million

Adults 25-54

ABC World News Tonight: 1.6 average rating/7 share (1.856 million viewers)

NBC Nightly News: 1.4/7 (1.726 million)

CBS Evening News: 1.2/6 (1.430 million)

Adults 18-49

ABC World News Tonight: 1.0 average rating/5 share (1.293 million viewers)

NBC Nightly News: 1.0/5 (1.244 million)

CBS Evening News: 0.8/4 (1.011 million)

  1. Compare the amount of promotion and advertising of Muir by ABC…a whole lot. To the amount NBC is promoting Lester Holt…zero. Lester is pulling in those viewers or holding on to them on his own!

  2. All ABC “news” programs have become a joke. Ever since they’ve been owned by Disney, all they do is total self-promotion .. I used to love good morning America. Although I can’t stand their current weather joke, Ginger Z, every time I tune in it is an advertisement for a Disney movie, a Disney actor, or, surprise, an ABC show. Please, enough of the dancing with the stars shows – not everyone loves that show. Dancing with the stars is not news to anyone with a brain ! All networks do this, however, since Disney has owned them, it has totally turned me off and now I love the today show. Get rid of Ginger Z and I may take another look. I started to compare the evening news with the three networks and was surprised that ABC actually repeats most of their news or directions to their website. They are really being presumptuous calling themselves a news report,
