“Facebook rolled out a new version of the social network that will work well across all network conditions — including those with poor connectivity,” USA Today reports.

The launch of the new app for Android devices, Facebook Lite, includes the main Facebook features, and is aimed at enabling more people around the world to use the site and improving reliability.

“This new version of the app uses less data than the regular Facebook app, and is quick to install and load,” USA Today reports. “It is boiled down to its core features — status updates, photos, and notifications — so it can efficiently function with less data.”

The company said more than 1 billion people worldwide use Facebook.

Facebook Lite rolled out today in Asia, and is expected to launch in the coming weeks in parts of Latin America, Africa and Europe.
