Four Fixes That Can Turn Things Around for ‘The View’

Aug 7, 2015  •  Post A Comment

With another co-host on “The View” announcing Thursday that she is leaving the daytime staple, TV writer Toni Fitzgerald writes in Media Life magazine that the show can be fixed.

Nicolle Wallace confirmed on Thursday’s show that she’s headed out, following the recent departures of Rosie Perez and Rosie O’Donnell. The news leaves moderator Whoopi Goldberg as the only remaining host from the lineup that was in place last fall.

The show has seen declines in its ratings since the retirement of Barbara Walters last year. In its target demo of women 18-49, “The View” is averaging 443,000 viewers this season, down 14% from a year ago, the report notes, citing Nielsen figures. Total viewers are down 9% to 2.763 million.

Fitzgerald suggests the following four fixes:

  1. Stabilize the host turnover
  2. Add more ‘Hot Topics’
  3. Emphasize next year’s presidential election
  4. Add younger hosts

  1. A Executive Producer that has a clue would be a big help.

  2. Current executive producer MUSIC BE AN EX- CNN employee

  3. There’s no resuscitating this dinosaur, especially with Whoopi at the helm. She’s been a huge disappointment. This show is way past it’s freshness date.
