Why Quentin Tarantino Delivered a Rant Against Disney on Howard Stern’s Radio Show

Dec 17, 2015  •  Post A Comment

In a rant laced with a series of four-letter words, director Quentin Tarantino accused Disney of extortion during an interview Wednesday on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show.

Variety quotes the Oscar winner saying Disney is “going out of their way to f— me,” and adding: “It was real bad news and it f—ing pissed me off.”

“The cause of Tarantino’s rage? He says Disney is strong-arming Arclight Cinemas, pushing his 70MM ‘The Hateful Eight’ out of the L.A. theater’s renowned Cinerama Dome for J.J. Abrams’ ‘The Force Awakens,'” Variety reports. “Tarantino explains that ArcLight Cinemas told Disney they would play ‘The Hateful Eight’ in the Cinerama Dome starting on Christmas, but Disney threatened to pull ‘Star Wars’ from all locations if the film couldn’t stay in that one theater.”

Tarantino is quoted saying: “It’s vindictive, it’s mean and it’s extortion.”

  1. I have no great love for Disney but anyone that puts loudmouth Tarantino in his place gets a thumbs up from me!

  2. Loudmouth? That’s part of his charm, part of his schtick. And his brief comments speaking out against crimes by police officers was totally on target, and NOT an indictment of all police. Too many people only see the right-wing headlines and don’t bother to get the whole story.

As for what movie is playing at the Dome, it’s clearly up to Arclight. If they booked H8teful Eight and were pressured by Disney to show Star Wars instead (as it seems), Tarantino has a lot to scream about. There is no better theater to see 70mm than the Dome.

Finally, it’s best to judge an artist by their works, not their mouths. By that standard, Tarantino is one of the very best working today…

  3. I have no great love for Tarantino but anyone who tells it like it is about police misconduct in our society as he did gets a thumbs up from me.

Not that this had anything to do with Disney behaving like major studios always do. I doubt anyone could work in Hollywood as long as QT has without knowing this is how they play the game.

  4. Hundreds of thousands of police and civilian interactions everyday without incident and somehow all, many or most police are guilty of misconduct and brutality. What a joke. There are bad apples in every bunch and the police have no more or less than what exists anywhere. As to Tarantino, he would be ranting at his studio if they didn’t do the same for him. Typical Hollywood hypocrite.

  5. Saw both features. Arclight made the right decision.
