The manager of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has been charged with battery, and Trump responded with a tweet saying there’s nothing to the incident.

The New York Times reports that Corey Lewandowski was charged today with simple battery by police in Jupiter, Fla., in connection with an incident at a campaign event in which Lewandowski allegedly grabbed a reporter. The incident, which took place March 8, was captured on surveillance video and became a focus of attention during the campaign.

The incident took place as former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields was walking next to Trump and attempting to ask him a question. In the video, Lewandowski appears to grab Fields to pull her away from Trump.

TMZ.com notes that Fields tweeted a photo of her bruised arm following the incident. Fields accused Lewandowski of grabbing her and he reportedly denied touching her.

Fields tweeted a message along with the photo, writing: “I guess these just magically appeared on me @CLewandowski_ @realDonaldTrump. So weird.”

Although Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks insisted today that Lewandowski was “not arrested,” numerous media outlets are reporting that he was arrested after turning himself in this morning.

Trump sent out a response on Twitter today, writing: “Wow, Corey Lewandowski, my campaign manager and a very decent man, was just charged with assaulting a reporter. Look at tapes-nothing there!”

The Times report notes: “According to the ‘arrest/notice to appear’ paperwork from the Jupiter Police Department, Mr. Lewandowski was charged with one count of simple battery after the police took statements from Ms. Fields and a Washington Post reporter, Ben Terris, who said he witnessed the grabbing incident.”

Fields reportedly resigned from Breitbart about a week after the incident, citing Breitbart’s refusal to support her in connection with the incident. Breitbart editor-at-large Ben Shapiro and a number of other Breitbart employees also reportedly resigned as a protest against Breitbart’s handling of the incident.

Here’s a brief video from “Inside Edition” that includes the video released by the Jupiter police:

  1. Q: If negative press only makes Trump’s supporters more supportive, why do the media keep reporting it?
    A: They can’t help themselves.

  2. It’s good for ratings, which is good for the bottom line. That it helps Trump is irrelevant. The bigger question is why is the media all but ignoring Bernie Sanders?

  3. Bernie who?
