‘The View’ in Talks With ‘GMA’ Personality for Hosting Vacancy

ABC’s daytime talk staple “The View,” where the latest lineup change surfaced this week with the news that Michelle Collins has been fired from her co-host job, is reportedly in talks with “GMA Weekend” lifestyle anchor Sara Haines to fill the vacancy.

In an exclusive, Variety reports that Haines, who has filled in as a guest host on “The View,” is in negotiations for a more permanent spot. “Sources inside ABC say that executives are high on Haines, 38, for her ability to tackle both hard and soft news stories, as well as her interviewing skills,” Variety reports.

“The View” has been scrambling to find a stable lineup of co-hosts since the retirement of show founder Barbara Walters in 2014. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg is said to be in talks to return for season 20, and Joy Behar and Paula Faris are also expected back, but the rest of the lineup is up in the air.

“The network is still figuring out if Raven Symone or Candace Cameron-Bure will be back as full-time co-hosts, according to two sources with knowledge of the discussions,” Variety notes.

Haines had a long run at NBC’s “Today” show before jumping to ABC News in 2013. Here’s a clip featuring Haines during a guest appearance on “The View” earlier this year …
