“House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey is now the focus of a sexual assault investigation by authorities in London, Business Insider reports.
“Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s child abuse and sexual offenses opened the probe after an allegation was made on Wednesday, initially to another force,” the story reports. “The Met did not name Spacey, but publications including Sky News, The Telegraph, and The Sun have connected him to the case.”
The report adds: “According to The Sun, the alleged victim woke up to Spacey sexually assaulting him in the American actor’s home in 2008. Spacey reportedly invited the unnamed man, who was 23 at the time, for a drink the night before.”
Spacey was the artistic director of The Old Vic theater in London at the time, before stepping down in 2015. The Old Vic earlier this week addressed allegations against Spacey, as we reported previously.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police wasn’t naming names, but is quoted by Business Insider saying: “It is alleged a man assaulted another man in 2008 in Lambeth.”
The Business Insider report adds: “As the alleged victim left the house, Spacey reportedly told him: ‘Don’t tell anyone about this.'”
Spacey’s contributions to British theater were recognized two years ago when he received an honorary knighthood.
“The actor was dropped by his agent and publicist on Thursday after CNN reported that he sexually assaulted eight current and former employees of ‘House of Cards,’ the award-winning Netflix show where he is a producer and actor,” the report adds.
