With Fox airing game two of the World Series and expected to win the night — although numbers were not yet available — the race Thursday night was for second place, which went to CBS by a comfortable margin, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

More interesting, perhaps, was what happened at the bottom of the standings, with both Univision and the CW topping NBC in the key 18-49 demo. NBC aired repeats of its Thursday night lineup.

CBS finished the night with a 3.2 average rating in adults 18-49, beating ABC (2.4 average), Univision (1.5), CW (1.1) and NBC (1.0). CBS also led the way in total viewers with 12.6 million to 7.2 million for ABC, 3.3 million for Univision, 2.7 million for NBC and 2.5 million for CW.

Hour by hour, CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory won the 8 p.m. hour with a 4.9 average rating in 18-49, with CBS’s “Rules of Engagement” at 8:30 also strong with a 3.7. CW’s "Vampire Diaries" had a 1.3, and ABC’s "Charlie’s Angels" followed with a 1.2.

At 9 p.m. ABC’s "Grey’s Anatomy" netted a 3.5 in 18-49, topping CBS’s "Person of Interest" with a 2.7. CW’s "The Secret Circle" notched a 0.9 in the same demo for the hour.

CBS’s "The Mentalist" (2.5) edged ABC’s "Private Practice" (2.4) at 10 p.m. in the 18-49 demo.
