The House of Representatives voted 284-136 late Thursday to approve an amendment that would restore $100 million to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s budget next year.

The vote means that CPB will receive the full $400 million it was supposed to receive, before House Republicans voted to slash the appropriation in committee.

The amendment, sponsored by Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., does not restore $23 million in funding for a program that provides funding for children’s TV shows such as “Sesame Street” and “Postcards From Buster,” nor does it provide the up to $85 million that public broadcasters had hoped would be forthcoming to help underwrite satellite interconnection expenses and the costs of switching to digital TV.
