The Federal Communications Commission said Friday that 141,868 indecency complaints were filed with the agency during the first quarter of the year, up from the 44,109 filed during the fourth quarter of 2005.
According to an FCC report, 138,527 of the complaints this year were filed in February, while 1,739 were submitted in January, with the remaining 1,602 in March. An FCC spokesperson declined comment on what spurred the spike in complaints in February.
According to the agency, a total of 233,471 indecency complaints were filed in 2005.
