U.S. political campaigns spent as much as $2.7 billion on advertising this year, up more than 50% from 2004, Broadcasting & Cable reports, citing TNS Media Intelligence. Television accounted for $2.2 billion of the total, said B&C, which added that campaigns will continue to buy advertising because of the 36 governor races in 2010.
