A television remake of “The Day of the Triffids” has cast Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard and Jason Priestley in the two-part drama, the Hollywood Reporter says. In the show, which will air on BBC1 this year, Scott will play a doctor who leads the battle against the Triffids, a flesh-eating vegetable with a taste for humans, the trade paper says. RH1 Entertainment holds U.S. rights, the Reporter says.

Dougray Scott, for those that don’t know, is the guy who made Hugh Jackman a star.
See. Dougray was originally cast as Wolverine in the first X-Men movie. However, he got a chance to star in the sequel to the Tom Cruise-headlining Mission: Impossible movie and chose that role instead. Producers were scrambling, but they found Aussie actor Jackman to fill the role. Jackman starred in three X-Men movies, won a Tony for his role on Broadway, hosting the Oscars in a couple of weeks, and will reprise the role of Wolverine in the upcoming “prequel” X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
And Dougray . . . well, he’s still a fine actor, but one wonders if he regrets the decision to play a forgettable villain over the popular hero.
