CBS has made a pilot order for the crime procedural “I Witness,” from “CSI: NY” executive producer Pam Veasey and supervising producer Trey Callaway, Daily Variety says. The show follows a female professor-detective who uses psycho-physiological skills to unravel crimes, the trade paper says. Meanwhile, ABC greenlighted the comedy pilot “Cougar Town,” from “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel, which stars Courteney Cox as a fortysomething mother with a teenage son, the paper reports. ABC also gave a presentation order to Tantamount for a comedy starring Anita Renfro, while Jamie Tarses is fielding a comedy based on the book “Slummy Mummy,” about a woman seeking to reclaim her identity after becoming a wife and mother, the trade paper says. And multicamera ensemble comedy “Canned,” from Brillstein Entertainment Partners and ABC Studios, is about a group of friends who all get fired on the same day.
