NPR is shaking things up on its flagship “Morning Edition” radio program, with the moves prompted by Renee Montagne’s departure as as one of the show’s co-hosts.
“Rachel Martin, currently host of ‘Weekend Edition Sunday,’ will be joining David Greene and Steve Inskeep as co-host on weekday mornings,” NPR announced. “Lulu Garcia-Navarro, NPR’s South America correspondent, will be picking up the mantle at ‘Weekend Edition Sunday.'”
Greene, who currently co-hosts “Morning Edition” from Washington, D.C., will relocate to the West Coast, where he will join “All Things Considered” co-host Kelly McEvers and newscaster Dwane Brown working out of NPR West in Culver City, Calif.
Montagne, who has co-hosted “Morning Edition” from NPR West for 12 years, announced in July that she was stepping down to become a special correspondent.
Martin has hosted “Weekend Edition Sunday” for four years, and has reported for NPR as a foreign correspondent, religion correspondent and national security correspondent.
She will join “Morning Edition” in early December, with Greene to relocate in January and Garcia-Navarro to take over on “Weekend Edition Sunday” starting in January.
