Hmm. Cablevision and Disney-ABC Reach Accord (Sorta) in Time to Get Oscarcast Back on Air About 15 Minutes After the Start of the Show

Here’s what we know. The Walt Disney Co. agreed to restore the signal of its New York flagship TV station, WABC, about 15 minutes after the start of WABC’s broadcast of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, March 7th.

The two companies have resumed talks about fees Cablevision will pay to retransmit WABC’s signal to its 3.1 million New York-area subscribers.

The Los Angeles Times Company Town blog writes, "Terms of the tentative deal were not disclosed, and there were differing accounts of the value of the contract. One person familiar with the deal said it came out to about 55 to 65 cents per subscriber; another said the figure was closer to 27 to 37 cents. Neither person was authorized to discuss the details of the agreement."

However, the New York Times account mentioned no per subscriber numbers, saying only, "But people familiar with the deal said the terms were still quite tentative, and one ABC executive cautioned that “if Cablevision doesn’t honor the deal points, we’re right back where we started.”
