Despite Low Ratings, NBC’s ‘The Event’ to Relaunch in January

Despite low ratings, NBC’s drama "The Event" will relaunch in January with the goal of attracting new viewers, reports EW.com’s Hollywood Insider.

"We will finish up with our first 13 and then there be a break, and then we’ll come back with a one-hour compilation clip show of the first 13 so everybody can catch up with story,” said Bill Smitrovich, who plays Vice President Raymond Jarvis, at the Screen Actors Guild headquarters on Saturday.

Since debuting, the show has been shedding viewers and adults between the ages of 18 to 49. If "The Event" isn’t renewed for a second season, the producers have prepared short cuts to wrap up the show’s stories, the article notes.

But Jason Ritter, who stars as Sean, said, "We probably would have seen them start to come to a close. They would need the time to start doing those short cuts. But so far, so good. Ratings have not been the most ideal, but a lot of people are watching the show on their DVRs.”

Furthermore, the  show has had very strong overseas sales.

  1. No way you save a serialized show like this mid-season. Especially one that had the big audience that THE EVENT had its first night. If you don’t remember the ratings that first night, ask the Producers of LONE STAR.
