A CBS News correspondent who has been a fixture on the network for more than four decades is in the hospital in serious condition, the Associated Press reports.

CBS said 92-year-old Andy Rooney, who gave his last essay on the network’s "60 Minutes" just three weeks ago, developed serious complications after minor surgery and remains hospitalized, according to the story.

The network said Rooney’s condition was stable, but provided no additional information about his medical issues or where he was hospitalized, the story adds.

Rooney gave his 1,097th and last “60 Minutes” essay on Oct. 2, noting that it was a moment he dreaded. "I wish I could do this forever. I can’t, though," he said, according to the piece.
