Phillip Phillips, who has been battling chronic kidney problems, suffered from a buildup of kidney stones and had multiple operations to remove them, the story says.

Within the next few weeks, the 21-year-old will have another surgery to reconstruct his kidneys. He is expected to make a full recovery in time for the "Idols Live" tour.
