Charlie Sheen continues to open up about his infamous 2011 meltdown, serving up quotes that indicate the actor has gained considerable perspective on that turbulent period.

On the heels of an interview with Rolling Stone, which we reported on previously, the star of FX’s upcoming “Anger Management” sat down with Playboy and further opened the window into his tortured psyche of a year ago.

"I don’t know what happened," Sheen said during the interview. "I think I cracked."

E! Online published highlights of the chat session. Among them, Sheen sizes up his meltdown this way: "It was the buildup of all the time I’ve been in the business, the divorces and everything. I started to unravel. I was mad about having to play the game — not that I was playing it well, but I’d been doing it for so long. I finally just said the things I had always been thinking. But in the middle of a psychotic break."

The report adds: “The experience itself was ‘surreal,’ he says, and he cops to being ‘shocked’ at the momentum that the fallout generated.”

Says Sheen, according to the piece: "It never occurred to me where this stuff was going to end up or how it was going to be perceived. I didn’t care about anything beyond the moment. And then I was a little shocked by how huge the whole thing became. It was like an organism you couldn’t stop. It kept growing."

In the midst of the chaos, Sheen was unable to grasp that he had gone off the deep end, the story says.

Says Sheen: "I was in total denial. I felt I was winning by finally being able to speak my mind. I felt that was some sort of victory. And then it was fueled by the insane public outpouring of support."

Sheen adds that one regret he has is trashing his relationship with former “Two and a Half Men” co-star Jon Cryer.

"That was wrong. I whaled on him unnecessarily," Sheen says in the interview. "He just got caught in the crossfire. He’s a beautiful man and a f–king fabulous dude and I miss him. I need to repair that relationship, and I will. I will reach out and do whatever is necessary."
