Dish’s Ad-Skipping Hopper Gets Best of Consumer Electronics Show Award After All, as CES Cuts Ties With CBS-Owned Tech Site CNET

The Consumer Electronics Association has cut its ties with CNET in a rebuke to CNET parent company CBS, The New York Times’ Media Decoder reports.

The move is part of the fallout from CBS’s decision to block CNET editors from giving an award to Dish’s Hopper, the piece reports.

The group also retroactively gave the Best of CES Award to the Hopper, which is at the center of court battle between CBS and Dish, as we reported recently. CEA, which puts on the Consumer Electronics Show, also said that CNET will no longer host the Best of CES Awards.

"The CNET editorial team identified the Hopper Sling as the most innovative product of the show, and we couldn’t agree more,” Karen Chupka, a senior vice president at the association, said in a statement.

"The Hopper will share the Best of Show award with the product that CNET begrudgingly picked as a backup, the Razer Edge gaming tablet," The Times notes.

The association is searching for a new partner for the Best of CES Awards, the piece adds.
