FX’s new drama series "The Americans" debuted Wednesday with stronger numbers than the cable network’s hit “American Horror Story,” TVLine.com reports: 3.22 million total viewers. The premiere also attracted 1.57 million adults 18-49.

Adding in two encore telecasts that same night, the show drew 4.7 million total viewers and 2.54 million adults in the 18-49 demo.

"We’re very happy with premiere ratings for ‘The Americans’ and, just as importantly, we’re proud of the widespread critical acclaim the show has received,” said FX President John Landgraf.
