Massive Shakeup At ‘The View’: Two Co-Hosts Leaving

There's been a major shakeup at "The View," with two of the show's co-hosts exiting, reportedly given their walking papers.

Writes TMZ in a scoop: "'The View' is cleaning house.  Network sources tell us the cast has been fired… except for Whoopi Goldberg. Our sources say there was a meeting at ABC late Thursday afternoon and they announced Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy were out.  We've now  confirmed executive producer Bill Geddie will not be coming back."

The story adds, "Jenny tweeted late Thursday, 'My View will be changing too. As will with [sic] many hard working folks. Thanks to everyone at the show for your dedication and an amazing year.'"

And according to a Deadline follow-up story, Shepherd said in a statement, "It’s been seven wonderful years on 'The View' and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on. I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my 'View' family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.”

Walters, who co-created the show with Geddie, left as a co-host of "The View" just last month, on May 16, 2014.

In The Hollywood Reporter's follow-up story, that publication ran this statement from ABC: "'The View' will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively."

THR added, "All of these changes for 'The View' comes amid ratings declines for the once dominant show. Female driven panel show and CBS competitor 'The Talk' has been making plenty of gains in the arena, and this fall sees the launch of yet another female-fronted panel show in syndicated daily 'The Real.'

"The transition for 'The View' will also [include moving] studios, shifting to the vacant old studio [recently used for Katie Couric's syndicated daytime talk show] in the ABC Broadcast Center on 47th Street in New York City."

According to TMZ, some of the people ABC is interested  in joining "The View" include former professional  boxer Laila Ali; "Tonight Show" and "Chelsea Lately" veteran Ross Mathews; former football player — and former contestant on "The Bachelor" — Jesse Palmer and Rosie  O'Donnell, who was once a co-host on the program.
