An arbitrator ruled that telenovelas and other Spanish-language shows produced outside the U.S. are ineligible for a Spanish-language Emmy, a decision that favored the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Daily Variety reports. ATAS and legal rival National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences spent a collective $3 million on the case, and NATAS may have to pay ATAS for legal costs, the newspaper says.
