ABC Hopes Contestants Fall, Not ‘Wipeout’

ABC is hoping viewers tune in to see people trip, slip and fall on its new heavily promoted reality-competition show “Wipeout,” which premieres Tuesday night, USA Today says. The show looks like a descendent of Japanese shows that put contestants in harm’s way, but executive producer Matt Kunitz tells the paper he thinks “Wipeout” is more like his previous show “Fear Factor” because “we create the moments rather than waiting for someone to slip and fall.” “Wipeout” is only one of several Japanese style shows to be hitting U.S. airwaves this summer, the Associated Press says.
