Ad Spots Dominate Prime Time

Thirty-second ad spots make up 55% of all advertising units, while 15-second and 30-second spots account for 93% of all commercials during prime-time, according to the Nielson Co., Media Daily News reports. The company also found that dramas are the biggest program type on broadcast TV at 38% and that variety series, which includes some reality shows, has grown to 56 programs out of a total 243 programs, the Web site says. The percentage of homes with satellite TV increased 8% to 27%, while the percentage of cable households was down to 61% from 68% eight years ago, the Web site notes.
