NTIA Calls for Station DTV Tests

National Telecommunications and Information Administration acting head Meredith Attwell urged more stations to run a digital TV test like those in Florida, Broadcasting & Cable reports. Orlando, Fla., stations will turn off their analog signals for 10 seconds at 7:59 p.m. on Wednesday, the publication says. A “Your TV Passed the Test” message will appear on viewers’ screens if they are ready for the DTV transition, the newspaper notes.

  1. a 10 second message is far from accurate, in getting quality numbers.
I hope Toledo, Ohio runs a test. The only stations from Toledo I get are WTVG-1, WTVG PLus and WTVG weather plus. Other than that, I can clearly get WDIV, WWJ, WMYD, WJBK and WBGU.
Analog is much higher in numbers of recieved siganls. I consistantly get Windsor, Onterio; Detroit, Michigan; Lansing, Michigan, Dayton, Ohio; Springfield, Ohio.
Somehow, I get Toledo’s analog… but the DT is horrible. I’m using a top of the line HD antenna, without local success (Channel Master 4228 and now with channel Master amp 7778).
I’ve tried everything. All I can figure out, DT signals are bouncing off Arlington Avenue, due to the angle of my apartment building and MCO equipment radiation. It also doesn’t help that WKKO/WTOD are behind my building.
I wish I could do more, but that takes an act of congress, so far to say.
    Its just sad!
