Kermit Love, a costume designer who co-created the “Sesame Street” characters Big Bird and Mr. Snuffleupagus, died on June 21 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. from congestive heart failure, the New York Times reports. Love built the Big Bird costume, in addition to helping design Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and creating characters for 22 foreign versions of the show, the newspaper says. He was 91.
