PTC: TV Prefers Extra-Marital Sex

Aug 6, 2008  •  Post A Comment

A new study by the Parents Television Council says broadcast TV prefers portraying extra-marital sex and suggests sex between married couples is boring, TelevisionWeek reports. The study looked at 207.5 hours of primetime scripted broadcast programming during four weeks last fall and found verbal references to non-marital sex outnumbering references to married sex 3 to 1, while scenes implying sex occurred four times more in non-married situations than married ones, the trade says.

  1. Why does this strike me as akin to the Woody Allen line, “the food was terrible and the portions were small”? So, PTC is saying they want sex off TV unless it’s their kind of sex?
PTC has a history of “studies” that confirm exactly what PTC cares to find.

  2. Great blog, appreciate the effort put into this post! Thanks! 😀
