Broadcast companies are gearing up for a potential bidding war next year for the rights to broadcast the 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games, the Wall Street Journal reports. After NBC’s success with the Beijing Games, many networks are going back to the drawing board in terms of numbers-crunching. “We’ve all stopped and reached for our calculators again,” said David Hill, Fox Sports’ chief executive. Some aren’t so quick to re-evaluate their budgets to obtain the rights, citing China’s political implications and Michael Phelps’ gold medal-winning accomplishments as the reason for NBC’s high ratings. “It hasn’t caused us to drop everything,” said CBS News & Sports president Sean McManus.
