Networks Sue Minnesota Over Polling-Place Rule

Sep 30, 2008  •  Post A Comment

News organizations including ABC, CNN, CBS, Fox News and NBC sued the state of Minnesota on Monday in an effort to block a new law that restricts access to polling places, the Associated Press reports. The law prohibits anyone other than voters and election officials from standing within 100 feet of a polling place, which the news organizations feel would interfere with exit polling. The news organizations claim the law violates their First Amendment rights to gather information about political processes and that the restriction would damage the reliability and accuracy of their reporting.
