Former Paramount and Sony Pictures Entertainment executive Mel Harris died Saturday from cancer, Daily Variety reports. He was 65. Harris was widely known as an innovator in first-run syndication and the home video business during his 25-year run at the studios. Harris also led the industry by harnessing satellite distribution for Paramount’s “Entertainment Tonight” to deliver the show to affiliates, Variety reports. Harris is largely responsible for Paramount’s revival of the successful “Star Trek” franchise with “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
