Fishburne Learning Ropes on ‘CSI’

“CSI’s” William Petersen recently shot scenes with series newcomer Laurence Fishburne that will usher in Fishburne as Petersen’s replacement on the hit show, USA Today reports. Fishburne will make his debut in the season’s ninth episode, scheduled for a December airdate, while Petersen will bow out in episode ten in January, the newspaper says. Fishburne tells the newspaper their overlapping scenes are important because “the audience won’t accept him” without Petersen’s character’s blessing.

  1. No offense or slight is intended to Mr. Fishburne or his talent, but this simply means I’ll stop watching the show. I don’t think I’m alone on this, because for many (if not most) of CSI’s audience, Petersen is CSI.
In fact, given this news, I just may not start watching this season at all… and I may not be alone in that, either.
A question producers need to ask themselves is this… has any major hit TV dramatic series survived a change/departure of the lead male character?
    Didn’t think so.
FWIW, although I know leaving is Petersen’s decision, I’m certain most producers just love to think that any actor is expendable.
