Is ‘Survivor’ Too Revealing?

Oct 2, 2008  •  Post A Comment

The Parents Television Council filed an indecency complaint with the FCC after an accidental penis flash during the season premiere of CBS’ “Survivor: Gabon” failed to get edited out, the Washington Post reports. The incident occurred when one of the contestants was running during a competition. While CBS says the exposure was “completely unintentional, inadvertent and fleeting,” PTC President Tim Winter says, “it was nonetheless shocking and purposeful,” according to the newspaper.

  1. Intentional, or not, call it sloppy editing and sloppy review after edit before putting to air.
I have aired too many hours of primetime network television, both live and with intense post-production, to accept an “OOPS! How did that happen?” from any producer.
Personally, I don’t care about our human body parts being seen by me. However, they do not belong on commercial, over-the-air television.
In this era of “I’m an editor because I can run a non-linear editing computer fast”, content responsibility, communication threads and common sense learned through experience, are hard to find.
Slap the hands of those responsible, make an example of them and let it be known that in this arena there are rules of the game. There is no hidden agenda here, this is no sudden change of what’s acceptable. Somebody should be fired.

  2. quite frankly … the least of our worries !!!

  3. What do these people at PTC do? Do they sit in front of their DVRs and play every “potential” show frame by frame? Maybe they should get off the couch and do something with their kids.

  4. Of course, it is obvious to anyone with Brain One that the “flash” was left in to cause just this sort of publicity> Is anyone surprised?

It is obvious that you did not even see the show in question here! I saw the premier and did not even notice this had happened. Someone had to go looking to find this penis flash – it was not obvious. So I agree with the above poster who said that these people must go looking for these incidents. Give it a rest!
