Presidential candidate John McCain returned to the “Late Show” Thursday but David Letterman saved his toughest shots for McCain’s running mate Gov. Sarah Palin, the Associated Press reports. Letterman had been needling McCain ever since McCain canceled an appearance at the last moment last month. When Letterman asked McCain to explain, McCain replied “I screwed up.” (MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, who filled in for McCain in September, was backstage at the “Late Show” on Thursday as a backup as McCain was delayed getting to New York by bad weather.) Letterman later asked a series of pointed questions about Palin’s qualifications to be vice president. Despite the grilling, McCain said he would return to the show if elected—after raising Letterman’s taxes. Meanwhile, Democratic vice presidential candidate appeared on “The Tonight Show.” Biden told host Jay Leno that McCain “seems a little more angry than he usually is,” the AP says.

Funny how in today’s world of media some call what happened last night as a “grilling”.
I thank Letterman for raising the Palin issue, but that was not a grilling.
That the GOP chose Palin is an amazing “F-U” to the American people.
There is a wealth of worthy individuals across this country to be running for VP.
On THAT choice alone, their ticket must crash and burn November 4TH.

Letterman cracks jokes about Palin. Biden ribs McCain. Nice to see the Center for Media and Public Affairs finding of a 7 to 1 ratio of Republican compared to Democrat jokes by the late night (Democrat) hosts is continuing.
7 to 1? Are they doing ANY Democrat jokes? Letterman hardly grilled McCain. Both showed wit, intelligence and respect. “I screwed up.” It was television history. The first time a politician took accountability and was honest. Enjoy the White House, Senator.
Letterman at his very best!!! Especially in the 2nd half of the McCain interview! Good to see that both -at least somewhat- kept their sense of humor in all of this though
