The Los Angeles Times experienced the devotion of producer Barney Rosenzweig and the many hardcore fans of his 1980s cop series “Cagney & Lacey” after a recent article in the newspaper did not recognize the show’s contributions to the history of female characters on police shows, the paper reports. Rosenzweig urged fans to submit letters to the newspaper about “the failure of [its] apparent understanding of the significance of ‘Cagney & Lacey.'” The series was saved from cancellation in 1983 after Rosenzweig led a fan letter-writing campaign, successfully keeping the show on the air for six seasons, the newspaper says.
