The passage of California ballot initiative Proposition 8, which amends the state constitution to ban gay marriage, has drawn emotional responses from Ellen DeGeneres and “Star Trek” actor George Takei, both of whom got married this year, TV Guide reports. “It was astounding to think that the hard-won equality that made my recent marriage to Brad Altman [possible] would no longer be possible for others,” Takei said. In a statement, talk show host DeGeneres said of the passing of the law, “[W]hen it was clear that Proposition 8 had passed in California, I can’t explain the feeling I had. I was saddened beyond belief.”
