CBS’ “NCIS,” an often overlooked hit show, is bucking the odds by continuing to grow in its sixth season on the air, the Los Angeles Times says. “NCIS” “probably has not lost many of its core viewers over time,” Steve Sternberg of media buyer Magna Global, tells the paper. “There is a small central cast and close-ended story lines. This makes it easier for new viewers to tune in and figure out what’s going on.”

NCIS is absolutely one of the unsung shows on network today. It’s a ratings grabber and, in the day when this REALLY mattered, an “Idol”-killer. Its not-so-secret formula: pull-you-in storylines and – most importantly – a cast that gels. Sometimes it plays more like an office comedy than a procedural.
