“The Office” stars Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak go home for Thanksgiving and talk with hometown newspaper the Boston Herald about their roles on the NBC show. “My character on the show is just an exaggerated version of myself … which is a little embarrassing,” Kaling says of her character, Kelly Kapoor. “Kelly isn’t a role model. She’s just sort of an idiot. It’s fun to play a character who’s not a forensics expert, or computer-science genius … the way other shows have Asian characters portrayed.” Novak has an equally good time playing temp Ryan on the sitcom. “It’s fun to channel your wildest and most far-reaching comedy,” Novak said.
