The IOC rejected a bid by European public broadcasters for television rights for the 2014 and 2016 Olympics, the Associated Press reports. The European Broadcasting Union, which has shown the Games in Europe for free for the past 52 years, paid almost $600 million combined for rights to the Beijing Summer Games this year and the Turin Winter Games in 2006, the wire service says.
