William Shatner and James Spader will banter for the final time on Monday night’s “Boston Legal,” which is signing off after five award-winning seasons, USA Today says. “Boston Legal’s” end marks the first time in more than 20 years a David E. Kelley show won’t be on the broadcast schedule, a string stretching from “L.A. Law” through “Picket Fences,” “Ally McBeal,” “Boston Public,” “The Practice” and others. Meanwhile, the Washington Post talks to Kelley about “Boston Public” and television.

David Kelley’s brilliant writing will be missed.
His keen understanding and appreciation for our Constitution and the Bill of Rights were exhibited often down stage center in the exqusite monologues beautifully executed by James Spader and other members of this steller cast.
During these dark years of the Bush Doctrine and Admnistration, Kelley’s words have held up a candle of light and promise.
I am grateful for what he has shared through his characters: Life, brotherhood, respect for our American Heritage and some unadulterated foolishness.
