NBC Putting Leno in Primetime

Dec 9, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Jay Leno will be staying at NBC after he finishes his tour on the “Tonight Show,” TelevisionWeek reports. The network has signed Leno to a new deal that gives him a 10 p.m. show weeknights, keeping him from competing in late night with his successor Conan O’Brien.

  1. SO SORRY FOR JAY ! THAT HE GOING TO STAY ON A NETWORK THAT IS ON IT’S WAY DOWN AND KEEPS GOING DOWN EVERY YEAR!! I KNOW HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!

  2. Zucker’s comments on the amount of Prime hours his network is responsible for compared to FOX greased the wheel for this announcement.
Why NBC is compelled to follow FOX is a concern. In the early 90’s, FOX programmed 15 hrs a week because they didn’t have enough programming.
The good news is that NBC will improve the strength of the line-up by having their strong shows condensed into less hours.
And if Leno pulls a 4.0 rtg/18 share at 1030/1130p…that translates into a 9.5/18 share in Prime due to higher PUT levels.
FOX NEWS for most affiliates does the same share as their 10p/11p network counterparts…but that share in Prime is simply a big number.
NBC will take anything close to that 9.5 rating.
This may work…it’s better than another dance show!
