Tribune Co. is talking with bankers and lawyers about the possibility of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, the Wall Street Journal reports. Tribune is struggling with $12 billion in debt as a weakening economy and advertising market have hit its newspapers and television stations. Among the assets Tribune could sell to reduce its debts are the Chicago Cubs baseball team and the company’s stake in Food Network.
