WKRP On Air For Real

Dec 1, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Low-power TV broadcaster WBQC-TV in Cincinnati has changed its call letters to WKRP-TV, using the name of the 1970s sitcom to promote its new digital signal, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Station general manager Elliott Block says he wants to broadcast the show “WKRP in Cincinnati,” but it’s only being distributed via cable.

  1. what a great, great show that captured so much of radio’s charm, ego and quirkiness. too bad WKRP was never treated with the care it deserved and ended up going off without a proper send-off. good luck to the new station.

  2. well, if they have a radio station, too, they should also make it WKRP. After all, on the show it was a radio station!
    LOL 🙂

  3. I wonder what happened to th4e original WKRP; a small station in Georgia? I personally have every episode of that TV show on tape and still get a kick out of watchng it once in a while. It is SO true to life.
(Well, maybe not the station manager!)

  4. The real WKRP-LP is in Nashville right now. The FCC isn’t admitting knowing anything about a callsign change for WBQC.
