Grammer Comedy Reflects Tough Economy

A pilot starring Kelsey Grammer reflects the economic hard times, with
Grammer playing a laid-off Wall Street executive who moves back to his
hometown with his wife and children, the Hollywood Reporter says. ABC has
ordered a pilot of the half-hour untitled comedy, which is written by
“Everybody Loves Raymond” executive producer Tucker Cawley.

  1. I know Kelsey Grammer is trying, but I don’t think someone who has played one character for about 20 years on TV is going to be able to easily jump to another project and have it be successful.
For example: Bill Cosby had a great run with The Cosby Show. He decided to make a comeback to comedy with the show Cosby on CBS. The only reason that worked was because they replaced the wife, who was originally supposed to be Thelma Hopkins, with Phylicia Rashad. The chemistry between the two of them had already been established, so the show succeeded. If not for her, the show would probably have fallen flat, IMO.
Back to You had a good cast, but just did not work because Kelsey Grammer was not playing Frasier.

  2. Julia:
Does that mean Kelsey Grammer should cease working because he’s associated with one part?
Sort of a shame. What if Michael Landon had stopped after “Bonanza”? No “Little House on the Prarie”?
Don’t agree. Keep plugging away and creating projects so I can work on them (I’m in lighting).
