Inaugural Performers Played With Prerecording

Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman and other classical musicians performing at Tuesday’s inauguration ceremony all played their parts against a prerecorded version of the piece, the New York Times reports. Precautions were taken due to the cold weather, which could have affected the strings on the instruments and their tuning, the newspaper said. “The fact they were forced to perform to tape because of the weather did not seem relevant, nor would we want to draw attention away from what we believed the news is,” said Carole Florman, spokeswoman for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, the Times adds.
