Republicans Push for More DTV Coupon Funds

Joe Barton, R-Texas, a ranking member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, and other Republicans have introduced a bill that would allocate an additional $250 million in DTV converter coupon funds in order to get consumers off the waiting list, Broadcasting & Cable reports. The proposed bill also would have the remaining DTV coupons sent via first-class mail instead of bulk rate, saying that if the switch happens next month as scheduled, only 200,000 households would lose all service, the trade says.
