Screen Actors Guild national executive director Doug Allen sent a message on Friday to the union’s 120,000 members telling them that a strike authorization vote can be justified in economic hard times, Daily Variety reports. “Tough economic times are when it is most necessary to be unified to resist the studios’ and networks’ effort to obliterate contract provisions in our future work,” he wrote. Some opponents to the strike vote are seeking to fire him as the guild’s chief negotiator, the paper says.
