Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., announced on Thursday night a bipartisan agreement to delay the country’s changeover to digital TV from Feb. 17 to June 12, TelevisionWeek reports. Rockefeller said a Senate vote on the legislation likely would take place next week, according to TVWeek.

Thanks for changing the rules at the tail-end of the game, Jay! You’ve now put the DTV transition date (which you and other congressional leaders mandated) inside the HURRICANE season and will be causing even MORE CONFUSION and PROCRASTINATION among those folks who’ve been hiding under a ROCK for the past TWO YEARS.
How about a government bailout for TV stations that will now have to pay THOUSANDS of dollars EACH per month in unexpected electric bills (not to mention lost inventory)? WHAT a JOKE.
Really George, did you expect anything less? The Goverment mandated the switch for Feb. 17. Even Nielsen had to change sweeps dates to accomidate the goverment. Now, because Congress pretty much ignored it until last week, they are in a panic. They should have fixed the coupon program last November when the first signs of trouble showed up. But no, typical Congress, wait to the last moment and then throw the problem onto someone else. Every TV person who loses thir job because of the delay and the extra expensses it will cause, needs to call and personally thank thier congress person.
